PE at Washington Elementary School
All children at Washington School participate in a quality Physical Education program. P.E. classes are held every school day for twenty minutes. The children experience a variety of activities promoting fitness, health and the development of lifetime skills. Such activities include dance, tumbling, cooperative games, movement, equipment and sport skills.
"Fitness Friday" is a program incorporated into the P.E. curriculum at our school. Each Friday consists of lessons focusing on the importance of fitness andhealth in our daily lives. Fitness games, stations, endurance jogging/ walking and the benefits of exercise are introduced to the children. They are encouraged to participate to the best of their ability and to start developing healthy habits during and outside of class.
Other special events presented by the P.E. department are held throughout the year. All children help the community by participating in the American Heart Association's Jump Rope or Hoops for Heart event. Good Sports is a program rewarding 3rd - 5th graders who display good sportsmanship and appropriate behavior. Evanston District 65 hosts a track and field meet for 4th and 5th graders in June. And to end the year students and teachers participate in a variety of games, relays and healthy activities on Cooperative Games Day. Please call us at school with any questions you may have.

Mission Statement
District 65 elementary physical education program takes a multidisciplinary approach to contribute to students' physical, social and intellectual development as well as giving them a basis for maintaining a healthy active lifestyle. Students from diverse backgrounds and abilities are provided with a safe and positive learning environment that is developmentally appropriate and encourages maximum participation. Students are involved in a variety of standards based activities that are linear with middle school and high school curricula. Physical Education is a lifelong process, which is the primary responsibility of the students , shared by home, district and community.
